Welcome to Proud Watford's resource hub— a curated collection of trustworthy websites offering support, information, and services for LGBTQIA+ individuals, their allies, and families in Watford and the surrounding area.
While our focus is on resources available in Watford and South West Hertfordshire, we've also included reputable nationwide organisations where we think they could be useful.
We understand that navigating support services can be overwhelming, but we hope this list will help you to find the information and support you need. If you have further questions, or just want to meet like-minded people, please do come along to one of our events – you are never alone.

Switchboard LGBT+ A national LGBTQIA+ helpline in the UK.
Herts Mind Network (Watford & West Herts): - Offers a variety of mental health services, with staff trained in LGBTQIA+ issues.
National LGBT+ Partnership - A national organisation providing support, resources, and information for LGBTQIA+ people in the UK.
MindLine Trans+ - Provides information and support for transgender, non-binary, and questioning individuals.
Stonewall: A leading UK charity advocating for LGBTQIA+ rights, providing extensive resources on various topics, from legal rights to educational materials.
LGBTQIA+ Teens

The Proud Trust: Supports LGBTQIA+ young people through youth groups, peer support, and educational resources, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

Stonewall Young Futures: Provides resources and support specifically tailored for LGBTQIA+ youth, including information on coming out, education, and mental health.

AKT Supports LGBTQIA+ young people who are homeless or facing homelessness in the UK.

Herts Pride: An annual event celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community in Hertfordshire, welcoming people of all races, faiths, genders, sexualities, and abilities.

Health and Wellbeing
The Terence Higgins Trust provide free services to those with questions or issues around HIV, AIDS or sexual health. Including a sexual health helpline, HIV testing, counselling and peer support programmes.
for confidential and practical advice on all aspects of sexual health, including free STI, HIV and pregnancy testing.
The Alzheimer’s Society have a guide for LGBTQIA+ people living with dementia and their families. Everyone experiences the challenges of dementia in their own individual way. Being LGBTQ+ and having dementia can bring other additional challenges.
Hertfordshire Mind Network's LGBTQ+ Group: Provides a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community to share experiences, learn new skills, and improve quality of life through online groups and activities.
Healthwatch Hertfordshire offers useful local health advice and information
Mind: Offers services to support LGBTQIA+ health and wellbeing, including support groups and counselling, available both online and in person.

Trans and Gender Diverse Support
Hertfordshire Transgender and Non Binary Support Group hold group monthly meetings, swim sessions and more.
Trans Unite is a volunteer run, non profit organisation which helps members of the transgender and non-binary communities find local support groups, and online-only support groups too.
Mermaids - Supports transgender, non-binary, and gender-questioning young people and their families.
Transactual is a trans led and run organisation raising awareness of trans people’s lived experiences, with a focus on healthcare and trans people’s legal protections.
Gendered Intelligence works towards a world where trans, non-binary and gender questioning people live healthy, safe and fulfilled lives.
The Gender Identity Research Centre - provides resources and support for transgender people in the UK and international users through online resources.

Legal Advice
The Hertfordshire LGBT partnership has produced a toolkit that offers support and advice for LGBT people who may have experienced some sort of violence, harassment or abuse. It aims to help you help yourself, know when to ask for help and where to get it.
Galop Law - Offers free legal advice and support to LGBTQIA+ people in the UK.
Stonewall - A national LGBTQIA+ rights charity offering legal information and advice.
Citizens Advice offers free guidance on legal rights and protections for LGBTQIA+ individuals (and everyone else) covering topics like discrimination and family law.
Please note: While we strive to include local resources where possible, some categories don't have an option local to us in Watford or Hertfordshire. The national resources listed can still provide valuable support.
